I recently watched legendary Chezh director František Vláčil’s medieval epic Marketa Lazarová from 1967. What a ride! Every frame is a painting in itself.

Here’s a quick value/composition study.

Quick study of Abbott Handerson Thayer.

Work in progress.
Made a random scribble. Looked at it. Saw a forest scene. Scribbled in a wounded deer, and tried to enforce a strong composition.

Quick landscape sketches.

Contemporary portraiture

I don’t know why I did this. I don’t know if it’s a critique or a celebration either.

A study for value and edge control.
The second image is just me fudging around with filters and cheap tricks.

Made a new brush and decided to put it through its paces by doing a study of William Russell Flint. It kept up pretty well.

Here’s a poster I designed a couple of years back for Krökbacken, a stoner festival here in Sweden. I wanted to combine art nouveau with the local allmogestil, which is the old decorative style of the common classes (mostly peasantry) from around the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
Floral patterns were very prominent, so I incorporated a few “local herbs” into the design: The red poppy, the wild chamomile, and the liberty cap (psilocybe semilanceata).

Quick thumbnails. I tried putting some figures in the compositions this time.

Here’s a sketch of a magus, a “priesty” guy for a medieval low fantasy setting I’m working on.

I suck at hair design, but I’m happy I’m slowly becoming able to express emotion in my work.

I’ve been getting into medieval/low fantasy stuff lately. Here’s some sketches from a couple of ideas I’m tossing around.

I just finished watching Rogue Star, a sci-fi pen and paper rpg series by Tabletop Time. I have to say, that plot twist with Atlas was so beautifully executed by everyone involved, and I never expected it to hit me so hard.

It actually resonated with me a lot on a personal level, and I felt really compelled to create a piece in honor of that moment.

Some details of Atlas’ backstory I made up in my head. For example, I like the idea that the reason she’s taught herself holographics, back when she lived alone on the derelict ship as a girl, was so she could be with her brother in a sense.

So that’s what I wanted to depict here, in form of a poster, with the Rosetta sphere in the background, which actually fits perfectly as a symbol for time, and in this case lost time.

I’ll probably post some details later. I might color it too…

Quick practice with edges. I had fun doing the hair, but struggled on the face. I really need to start getting my proportions and human form down. I’ve never dune figure studies before, but I might pick that up…
